Xin Li is an emerging artist from Shanghai whose practice explores the intersections of contemporary news, historical events, and personal experience through digital imagery, photography, and appropriation. Born and based in Shanghai, he received a one-year certificate from the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York in 2012. In 2018, he transitioned from commercial photography to contemporary art, marking a significant shift in his artistic practice.
Since 2019, Xin Li has shared his perspectives on contemporary photography through Bilibili, one of China’s largest online platforms, where his videos have accumulated over 3.5 million views and cultivated a dedicated audience interested in contemporary art and photography.
His work investigates how public events and media imagery permeate everyday life, constructing layered visual spaces through photography, digital imagery, and appropriation. His work has been featured in Foam Magazine, Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, Musée Magazine, and the Foam Talent 2024–2025 exhibition at the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Frankfurt, following his selection as a Foam Talent 2024.
